Week 12 – Total Wipeout 2

Worryingly the soundtrack of the season may be Why Does It Always Rain On Me by Travis! For the second time this season all 97 matches in the Thames Valley Cricket League were abandoned due to weather.

I don’t remember that ever happening twice in a season in the 20 years I’ve been involved, and I suspect many of you like me are watching the weather forecast for this weekend, especially as it seems to be changing every couple of hours!

The T20 Plate Semi-Final against Bracknell was also a victim of the weather last night but fortunately the regular Bagshot Cricket Week day match just managed to be completed before the rain set in yesterday.

The match was reduced to 35 overs per side due to the weather forecast and Bagshot won the toss and elected to bat first.

Richard Rowlett (63) and Geoff Young (47) helped Bagshot reach a respectable 162 all out in 34.2 overs as the wickets were spread between 6 bowlers.

In response, Ascot started quickly with a 100 opening partnership stand between Elliot Mills (54) and Dan Mallett (52 retired not out). The rain clouds started looming but Anders Smith (49 not out) and Ryan Kooperwitz (7 not out) saw Ascot home by 9 wickets in 20.3 overs – and just in time before the heavens opened!

Let’s hope the weather gods are with us for Week 13
