Falkland 2 v 1s
The 1s made the trip to Falkland hoping to do better than the tied match in Week 4. Ascot won the toss and elected to bowl first.
That proved to be a pivotal decision as 6 Falkland batters reached double figures but the top score was 14. The Ascot attack were able to achieve control with runs difficult to come by and chipping in with wickets at regular intervals to bowl Falkland out for 93 in 32.1 overs.
Myles Trainor with 3 for 36 and Owen Bowles 3 for 7 were the pick of the Ascot attack.
However, Ascot knew this would be no easy task and at 59 for 5 the match was still in the balance. But Andy Murray (26 not out) and Ben Churchyard (18 not out) calmed any nerves and saw Ascot take the win in 30.1 overs.
2s v Sonning 2
Sonning were the visitors at the Racecourse Ground and elected to bat first on winning the toss.
At 22 for 5, Sonning seemed to be regretting the decision with Dylan Baker taking the top order with 3 for 19. But Saad Raqeeb (38) with Jameel Ahamed put on 99 for the 6th wicket to get Sonning back in the game.
The lower order supported Ahamed with John Rimmer (24) putting on 34 and Ella Phillips (9) for a 31 run 9th wicket partnership but Andy Wiggett took the final wicket for figures of 3 for 43 to get Sonning all out for 189 off 48.3 overs with Ahamed unbeaten on 82.
Ascot were soon 25 for 2 with both openers gone but Zach Phillips looked to get Ascot back in before he fell for a quickfire 23. Dan Mallett and Joseph Summers (29) then eased Ascot back into the run chase with an assured 4th wicket partnership of 111.
Skipper Tom Clarke then eased Ascot home with Dan Mallett taking the batting plaudits with a well constructed 84 not out to help Ascot to victory by 5 wickets and also off the bottom of the table.
3s v Aldershot 3
Aldershot were the visitors at Locks Ride. Aldershot won the toss and elected to bowl first. Ascot’s total was a true team effort as 9 batters made it into double figures from 11 to Waqar Soomro’s 41 and aided by a lot of extras reached a strong 259 all out in 40 overs.
The 6 bowler attack for Aldershot shared the wickets.
However, all of Aldershot’s top 6 reached double figures as well and they started to motor with the middle order as Issac Knox (68) and Gavin Dyall (45) helped get Aldershot back in the game after a sluggish start.
Satpal Singh was the star bowler for Ascot with 4 for 41 and those important middle order wickets to ensure that Aldershot remained behind the run rate and despite some lower order hitting, Aldershot finished on 231 for 8 off 40 overs as Ascot recorded their 5th victory of the season.
Sulhamstead & Ufton 3 v 4s
A short visit for the 4s as they made the trip to Sulhamstead and quickly came back after being bowled out for 84 and Sulhamstead knocked off the runs for the loss of 1 wicket in 11 overs to maintain their top of the table position.
