The end of the league 2023 season, and one for the club to reflect and rebuild from.
Wargrave 2 v 1s
The 1s finished the season at a very strong Wargrave. Wargrave won the toss and elected to bat first.
Mandip Sohi helped Wargrave to a strong start with 55, and then a sixth wicket partnership between Kieran Lall (89) and Neal Robinson (35) accelerated them to a strong total of 255 for 7 off 45 overs.
Ascot were soon in trouble at 14 for 3. Christoff Karemaker (37) and Adam Smith (37) gave Ascot some hope but with both removed, the Ascot late middle order / tail could not wag although Joseph Summers (26) gave some resistance as they were bowled out for 150.
Adit Rajeev was the pick of the Wargrave attack with 3 for 35.
2s v Wargrave 3
The 2s hosted Wargrave 3. Wargrave won the toss and elected to bowl first. Ascot lost wickets quickly and were 34 for 3. In the end, Ascot had to thank Jacob Phillips (73) with contributions from Ghulam Mirza (22) and Joseph Warren (19) to reach a competitive total of 177 all out. Theo Grantham took 3 for 40 for Wargrave.
In the end Wargrave never looked in trouble despite skipper Tom Clarke taking 4 for 31, as Luke Taylor (54), JJ Harris (39) and Aaron Lall (34) saw Wargrave home by 4 wickets with just under 10 overs remaining.
Fleet 2 v 3s
The 3s made the short trip over the county border to Fleet for the final match knowing that they were safe. Unfortunately the 3s were never really in the game as they lost the toss and were asked to bat first.
Hassan Sohail (25) top scored in an under par total of 106 all out in 27 overs as Harry Gilbert and Mark Manley took 3 fers.
Fleet knocked off the runs in 21 overs for the loss of only 3 wickets as Fleet. Oscar Edwards was unbeaten on 49 not out.
4s v Bagshot 3
A bottom of the table clash saw the 4s against local rivals Bagshot. Bagshot won the toss and elected to bowl first.
Ishaan Banerjee got Ascot off to a great start with 73 and Neal Feely continued the momentum with 93 not out to help Ascot reach a strong 241 for 3 off 40 overs. Mark Sutherland was the pick of the Bagshot attack with 2 for 24.
For Bagshot, stalwart Geoff Young who has had a long and successful career in the 1s and 2s, opened the innings in his last league match for Bagshot.
In a difficult run chase, he set the foundations of a Bagshot win with an unbeaten 102 not out as Bagshot got over the line with 5 deliveries remaining and 6 wickets in hand. A close match to end the season but just the wrong side of the result.
