Week 1 – Mo hits White Waltham for 6

A couple of cup round successes to start the weekly round-up.

The U13 Girls won their 1st round T20 Cup match against Effingham. Ascot batted first and made 115 for 6, thanks to a great innings of 44 not out by Frankie. Ascot were then able to restrict Effingham with a good bowling and fielding effort led by Anna with 2 for 5 off 4 overs.

The U15 Boys followed that up with a 1st round win in the Berkshire T20 Cup match against Datchet. Ascot batted first and thanks to contributions from all the line-up including 25 by Ronan and 25 by Euan, they reached 108 for 4. Datchet were then bowled out for 57 with Abhi taking 2 for 2 and Thomas 2 for 3.

The T20 started their league season with a 5 wicket victory over Binfield Development XI as James Summers took 3 for 0.

1s v White Waltham 1

The 1s started a new campaign at home with White Waltham being the visitors. Ascot won the toss and elected to bowl first.

Trainor & Hussain made early breakthroughs reducing White Waltham to 23 for 2. But a solid rebuild of the innings by Matt Furness (64) and Jonny Mahoney (48) saw White Waltham to 147 for 3. But the fall of Mahoney say a collapse led by an excellent spell by Mo Nawaz (6 for 35) and also a great caught and bowled by Nick Wiggett captured on our Youtube channel.

White Waltham finished 188 all out with just under 4 overs remaining.

Ascot started poorly with Kamran Hanif run out with the score on 2. And despite several starts by the top order, the game was in the balance at 92 for 5. Joseph Summers (32) and Mo Nawaz then put on 57 for the 6th wicket when Summers was smartly stumped off the bowling of Long.

With 5 overs remaining, Ascot needed 22 to win. The win was secured in one over as Nawaz reached his 50 and with his fourth boundary of the over secured a 4 wicket win.

White Waltham 2 v 2s

The 2s played the reverse fixture at White Waltham, and were asked to bat first when White Waltham won the toss. Deep Mohain got Ascot off to a good start with 37, and the innings was built around Ghulam Mirza’s 72. Tom Clarke gave the innings some impetus at the end with 35 not out and Ascot reached a respectable 235 for 6.

Luke Beard with 3 for 49 and Archie Buekers with 2 for 33 were the pick of the Waltham attack.

In response, White Waltham got off to a great start with Chris Metherell (89), Luke Beard (36) and Andy Elliott (52) ensured that Waltham were up with the rate and in control. Despite leaving it to the last over, White Waltham won by 6 wickets with 5 balls to spare.

3s v Sulhamstead & Ufton 3

Sulhamstead & Ufton were the visitors to Locks Ride and were invited to bat after Ascot elected to bowl first. The openers fell cheaply but the innings was built around Paul Hale (96) and Matt Burrows (56), as they put on 113 for the 4th wicket.

They ended on a strong total of 239 for 6 off 40 overs. Waqar Soomro finished with figures of 1 for 7.

Despite 8 Ascot batters getting into double figures, it was a wag in the tail by Sadiq Khan (31) and Amit Singh (33) that saw Ascot finish on 182 all out. Wickets were shared but Mark Gibson took 3 for 17.

Henley 4 v 4s

The 4s made the journey to Shiplake College. Henley won the toss and elected to bat first. Henley were soon in trouble at 33 for 3, but Chris Proudfoot (34) and Dom Proudfoot (34) with a 50 partnership got Henley back on track, to help them reach 176 for 6 off 40 overs.

In response, Elliot Mills got Ascot off to a quick start with 43 and with Ishaan Banerjee anchoring the innings with 69 not out, helped Ascot to a 6 wicket victory.
