A busy week of matches for senior and colts sides. A special mention to the U13s with a good win against Weybridge, which included a hat-trick by Yeshas, the third wicket being rather special as Jonah took a steepling catch on the boundary!
The Midweek T20 side lost a close encounter against Cookham Dean in the Bracknell Cup competition, going down by just 5 runs. The Plate competition awaits!
1s v Binfield 2
Ascot won the toss and elected to field first. Binfield were soon in trouble as Harry Johnston took 3 quick wickets to leave the visitors on 15 for 3. But skipper Mikey Allan-Canty 37 and Matt Humphrey 59 rebuilt the innings. Kamal Gupta shepherded the tail with 23 not out to get them to a respectable 178 for 9. GK Reddy was the pick of the Ascot bowlers with 3 for 27.
In response, Ascot started well but as soon as they gained momentum lost it again with a wicket. Kamran Hanif top scored with 58 but in the end Nick Wiggett and Joe Warren saw Ascot through by 3 wickets. Venkatram Choodamani took 3 for 33 for the visitors.
Falkland 3 v 2s
The 2s made the epic journey to the other side of the county to face Falkland at the Wilson Carlisle Ground. Ascot won the toss and with a damp outfield elected to bowl first.
Tim Howson 1 for 16 and Rajiv Docker 1 for 14 kept the opening overs tight, but contributions from all the middle order including 46 by top scorer Zach Pool saw Falkland to 178 for 8. Tom Clarke doing the bowling honours for the 2s with 3 for 21.
Ascot’s chase was built around the 75 from Ghulam Mirza, and despite a mini-collapse as the total was in sight, skipper Dan Corsini saw the 2s home by 3 wickets. Ted Brown took 6 for 46 for the home side.
Cookham Dean 3 v 3s
Ascot make the trip to Cookham Dean 3s and elected to field on winning the toss. 5 players got into double figures for Cookham Dean but with Aariz Merchant top scoring with 31 and Naeem Mohammad taking 4 for 45, Cookham Dean were bowled out for 133.
Sam Burling 35 got Ascot off to a good start and with Waqas Ashraf securing the middle order with 41 not out, saw Ascot home to a 4 wicket victory.
4s v Cookham Dean 4s
Cookham Dean 4s were the visitors at Locks Ride and decided to field first on winning the toss. Elliot Mills led the way with the bat with 82 and with the rest of the top and middle order chipping in made a strong 241 for 6.
Keeper Jonathan Gay got Cookham going with 71 and when he departed on 155 for 4, Ben Wilkinson took on the mantle with a run-a-ball 57 not out but it was not enough in the end as Cookham Dean fell 13 runs short.
So in Week 4, all 4 teams won and the 4s continued their strong start with 4 out of 4 wins. Hence the title of the article!
