A good week for the Colts teams as the Under 15s, Under 13 Hawks, Under 13 Spitfires, Under 13 Hurricanes, Under 11s and Under 10s all recording good wins.
Falkland v Women
Last Friday, the Women’s team made the long journey to Falkland for a league match. Yet again, we had another nailbiting final ball finish – the fourth in 5 matches!
Falkland batted well reaching 307 for 3 in 16 overs. Eleanor being the pick of the bowlers taking 2 wickets. In reply Ascot batted well to keep up with the required run rate including a great innings of 29 by Eleanor.
The last over saw Ascot one run ahead but then Falkland took a wicket on the third ball. The fourth ball then saw a great boundary to tie the scores and the fifth ball was a dot ball.
The final ball saw a great shot and the last pair ran to try and get the win but an amazing piece of fielding saw a pick up and throw for the run out to give Falkland the win by 5 runs. A great match, a great performance by Ascot – and many shredded nerves at the end!
T20 v Bracknell United
Wednesday saw the T20 team in the Quarter-Finals of the Bracknell Midweek Plate competition. As Ascot were hosting the match, Bracknell batted first.
Bracknell started slowly and were 54 for 4 off 10 overs thanks to some tight bowling from Razwan Hanif, Joe Warren and Vijay Dwarakanath. But Zeeshan Mehtab hit a quick fire 68 including 5 sixes to make the last 10 overs productive and despite a clatter of wickets at the end which saw Razwan take 5 for 17, Bracknell finished on 144 all out.
Ascot had a similar start, but GK Reddy accelerated when needed to make an excellent 77 with Jacob Phillips 25 not out and Kamran Zaki 7 not out saw Ascot home by 6 wickets and a semi-final spot.
1s v Eversley 2
The 1s were at home to Eversley. Eversley won the toss and elected to field first. Ascot started well with a 73 partnership between Mike Breet 39 and GK Reddy. Razwan Hanif 47 then put on 94 for the second wicket as the Eversley bowling attack struggled to get wickets. Then the acceleration came with an unbeaten third wicket partnership of 109 as GK Reddy made a well deserved 108 not out and Kamran Hanif 62 not out to allow Ascot to declare on 276 for 2 after 50 overs.
In response Eversley kept up with the rate but lost wickets at regular intervals. The foundation of the innings was Will Perkin’s 110 off 105 balls. But when he fell for the 8th wicket to leave Eversley 176 for 8, then hopes of a win diminished as Mo Nawaz took the final wicket and finished with 4 for 60 to win by 71 runs.
Aldershot 2 v 2s
The 2s made the trip to Aldershot, but it was a day to forget as Aldershot won comfortably by 9 wickets. Batting first, only Ghulam Mirza offered any resistance with 38 as Ascot fell to 113 all out. Mark Gillingham took 5 for 23.
Aldershot knocked off the runs quickly as Justin Pretorius 59 not out and Ben bromley 23 not out saw Aldershot home inside 15 overs.
Hurst 3 v 3s
The 3s made the long trek to Stoke Row, with significant hindrance due to the M4 closure to play Hurst 3. Hurst won the toss and elected to bat first.
On a good wicket, Hurst scored well and thanks to Atul Rana 71 and Bharath Kumar Banala 111 not out made an impressive 236 for 2 off 40 overs.
In response, the 3s lost some early wickets but kept up with the run rate thanks to an excellent 101 from Waqas Ashraf and after he was out Usman Mumtaz 38 not out and Martin Kay 10 not out saw Ascot home by 3 wickets with 3 overs remaining. A good win by the 3s.
4s v Bushy Park 3
Having lost their unbeaten run last week, the returning fixture offered the 4s a chance of redemption. Ascot won the toss and elected to field first.
5 players got into double figures with Dunmore top scoring with 45 but Ascot kept battling to get Bushy Park all out for 144 with Basudev Pal taking 3 for 17.
In response the 4s eased to victory after a couple of early wickets. Richard Ellison 48 not out and Samuel Callaghan saw the 4s home by 7 wickets.
