Week 9 – July Storms

Having managed previously to get matches in when the weather has been inclement, unfortunately the weather won in Week 9 with most of the league matches called off including the 1s and the 4s.

However, despite several showers in Ascot the 2s and 3s were able to play

2s v Theale & Tilehurst 2

Theale & Tilehurst were the visitors to the Racecourse Ground. The match was delayed after a couple of showers but a 32 over match was played once the ground dried. Theale won the toss and elected to field.

All of the Ascot top 8 with the exception of Tom Clarke made double figures but no one player went on to make a dominant innings, Joe Warren top scored with 44, as Ascot reached a handy 195 for 6. Ritesh Shetty was the pick of the Theale attack with 3 for 39.

Theale also played well in response with Rob Why making 50 and James White 44. But it came to the final over and a 6 from Nazeem Hussain swayed it towards Theale but they needed 3 runs off the last ball. They went through for 2 and the match was tied as Theale finished on 195 for 4.

3s v Thatcham Town 3

At Locks Ride a 20 over match was played, although Thatcham elected to bat first on winning the toss. A good total became a great total as a short rain break after 15 overs saw Thatcham hit 70 off the last 5 overs. They made 187 for 2 thanks to an unbeaten 101 by Revanth Jonnagadia and Babu Periyasmy’s 50 not out. Despite the carnage, Usman Mumtaz had the tidy bowling figures of 4 overs, 1 for 8.

Ascot were never ever really in the hunt, and even though opener Saqib Bhatti made 59 and Gowtham Yeramanasetti 49 not out, Ascot finished short on 150 for 7. Rahul Ghai took 3 for 30 for the visitors.
