Week 12 – A weekend of Wokingham & Sonning

Wokingham 3 v 1s

Ascot made the trip to Wokingham CC and on losing the toss were asked to field. Wokingham started slowly but steadily, trying to keep wickets in hand before accelerating and making the most of the 52 overs to get maximum batting points. Arnav Kulkarni crafted a well earned 54 and Andrew McGrenaghan hit a run a ball 23 not out to get Wokingham to 202 for 9 off 52 overs.

Razwan Hanif was the pick of the Ascot attack with 4 for 49. In response, Ascot put on 134 for the first wicket with Mike Breet 70 and Kamran Hanif 65. Razwan Hanif 36 not out and Adam Smith 18 not out saw Ascot home by 8 wickets and just over 7 overs remaining.

2s v Wokingham 4

Wokingham made the reverse trip and elected to bat first on winning the toss. Akshay Danda 101 and Charlie Mulford 75 put the Ascot bowling attack to the sword to reach a dominant total of 267 for 7 off 45 overs. Jacob Phillips took 3 for 43 and Joe Warren 3 for 46 for Ascot.

In response, Ascot were not at the races. Only 2 batters reached double figures with Ryan Koopowitz top scoring with 23 as Ascot were blown away for 92 all out. The wickets were shared across all 5 Wokingham bowlers with Alex O’Keeffe taking 3 for 28.

Sonning 3 v 3s

The 3s were away at Sonning, and fielded first after losing the toss. Sonning batted well but it was left to Aseem Pottachola Shafi to give the innings impetus with 70 not out off 69 balls to reach 189 for 4 off 40 overs. Naeem Mohammad took 2 for 22 for Ascot.

In response, Ascot started well with Saeed Khan 34 and Saqib Bhatti 26 putting on a good start but while ahead of the run rate, Ascot started to lose wickets at regular intervals keeping Sonning in the game.

Waqar Soomro kept Ascot in the match with 49 but it needed Usman Mumtaz with 44 not out to help get Ascot over the line with 2 wickets remaining. Shi Muniyappa was the pick of the Sonning attack with 3 for 17.

4s v Sonning 4

At Locks Ride, Sonning were put into bat by Ascot. A patient 51 from David McLoughlin was the backbone of the innings and with Robert ray hitting a quickfire 37 not out saw them to a very competitive 216 for 9 off 40 overs.

In response, Ascot couldn’t get the momentum needed for a good run chase with 7 batters reaching double figures but despite Dirk Benneyworth top scoring with 35 not out, Ascot fell short on 173 all out. James Douglas Davis took 3 for 37 and Kabir Dave 3 for 40 for Sonning.
