Week 17 – Bumpers & Bouncers

Thankfully the weather allowed a full Saturday league fixture list, albeit a very cold one.

Eversley 2 v 1s

The 1s were on the road at Eversley. They won the toss and elected to field first.

Myles Trainor picked up an early wicket but Eversley were back on course with a 78 run second wicket partnership between John Matthews (36) and Pete de Lange (33). However, after they fell, Ascot were able to chip away and pick up wickets at regular intervals.

All the bowlers picked up a wicket and in the end were able to restrict Eversley to 197 all out with one over remaining.

Ascot lost Mike Breet and Razwan Hanif early but GK Reddy and Kamran Hanif steadied the ship but Kamran fell and Ascot were in trouble at 53 for 3. GK (77) and Adam Smith then put on 122 for the fourth wicket and Adam finished the job off with 55 not out as Ascot won by 6 wickets.

Unfortunately this week, news came through that White Waltham had been awarded a win against Fleet following a match rule breach and White Waltham are now 3 points ahead of Ascot in the second spot.

A massive thank you to the league and the committee for ensuring that the complaint hearing and appeal hearing were held in a timely manner so that we know where we stand going into Week 18.

We should never forget the work and effort of the volunteers that run the Thames Valley Cricket League, without which we would not have a competition and help maintain the integrity of the competition.

So still all to play for in the final weekend although the weather may still play a significant part in the proceeds.

2s v Aldershot 2

Aldershot were the visitors and hoping to try and continue their title charge and perhaps even win the title at Ascot.

The 2s won the toss and elected to field first. Tim Howson bowled a great spell of 9 overs with 1 for 16 and in the context of the match this was significant. Aldershot were ably led by a great innings of 134 not out by Daniel Anslow who accelerated the innings at the right time and was supported by Kyle Kisko (50) to reach an imposing 254 for 5 off 45 overs. Will Powell bowled well for Ascot taking 3 for 19.

Despite losing Dan Corsini early on, Ascot started briskly and were up for the chase. Dylan Baker (61) along with the rest of the middle order made quick contributions and Billy Baker made 55 not out to see Ascot complete an amazing run chase with 4 wickets and 13 balls remaining. A great win for Ascot in a see saw season. Aldershot remain top and can secure the title in the final match.

3s v Hurst 3

The 3s were at Locks Ride with Hurst the visitors. Ascot won the toss and elected to field first. Hurst were in ealy trouble at 35 for 4 but Bhaskar Bandaru (75) helped Hurst reach a competitive total of 194 all out with 17 balls remaining. Saria Muhammad took 4 for 26 for Ascot.

In reply Ascot had Waqas Ashraf (51) and Hassan Sohail (53 not out) to thank to see Ascot win by 3 wickets and hold on to 3rd position.

Slough Academy v 4s

The 4s finished their season at Slough. Ascot won the toss and elected to bat first. Ascot batted well with Ishaan Banerjee (51) and captain Elliot Mills (58) providing a great platform. Toby Dodwell-Bennett kept the momentum going and was unlucky to miss out on a century as he made 96 to get the 4s to a brilliant 284 for 6 off 40 overs.

Slough batted well with Kiaan Gulati top scoring with 48 but Raf Bocchio taking 3 for 23 Slough were never in with a chance of overhauling the total and finished on 191 for 8.

The win ensure the 4s the Division 10A title and promotion this season. Congratulations!
