The weather ruined the final weekend of the league season. The 3s league match and the 4s friendly match were washed out but we still had two league matches on.
1s v Emmbrook & Bearwood 1
The new Division 4A champions were the final league visitors to the Racecourse ground. Despite the rain, a great wicket had been prepared by Arun Oram and Emmbrook & Bearwood batted first.
Without any worries about the result, E&B played their own version of Bazball. Yuvraj Deshpande (110) opened with Jason Middleton (78) made it raining with boundaries with 23 fours and 8 sixes between them.
They were able to reach a strong 271 for 6 off 45 overs with Kamran Hanif the pick of the Ascot attack with 3 for 41.
Ascot were unable to replicate Emmbrook & Bearwood’s blistering start and despite a quickfire 52 from Adam Smith and a great cameo of 23 from Dan Mallett, Razwan Hanif was left on 49 not out as Ascot fell by 36 runs with 7 balls remaining.
Andrew Lazenbury finished the champion’s season with 4 for 63.
A sad end to a very promising season by the 1s. They finished the season in 3rd place with 302 points which ironically is the same total which the champions of Division 4B reached.
Theale & Tilehurst 2 v 2s
The 2s made their final trip to Douai Abbey. Theale & Tilehurst won the toss and elected to field first. A steady start by Ishaan Banerjee (25) and Joseph Summers (22) enabled James Docker (73) and Billy Baker (68) to accelerate and help Ascot reach a respectable 221 for 6 off 45 overs. Ritesh Shetty took 3 for 23 for the home side.
Despite 7 batters reaching double figures, with Mosa Nadeem top scoring on 36, Theale & Tilehurst were unable to overhaul Ascot’s total falling short by 34 runs with 1 wicket remaining. Will Ellison took 3 for 33 for Ascot as they finished the season in 6th place.
