Ickenham 2 v 1s
The 1s continued their roadtrip travels to the eastern side of the league with a trip to Ickenham in Greater London. Ascot won the toss and elected to field first. Ickenham got off to a good start despite the early loss of Thomas Farrell as opener Harmit Godami made a well constructed 57.
The acceleration came from several batter, Arron Davies (44), Daniel Pope (33), Ethan Slee (30) and Kesh Bains (21 not out) to get Ickenham up to a strong 257 for 8 off 45 overs. Kamran Hanif was the most successful bowler for Ascot with 3 for 51.
Ascot made a strong start with a 102 opening partnership between Mike Breet (47) and Dan Mallett (49) but a collapse saw Ascot out of the running as they fell from 102 for 0 to 147 for 8. A slight wag by the tail saw Ascot over the 175 mark but after a strong start it was a disappointing display to fall for 177 all out. Pradeep Chandran took the bowling plaudits for Ickenham with his 6 for 35 instrumental in the collapse.
2s v Braywood 2
A new team to the league, Braywood, were the visitors at the Racecourse, and elected to bat first on winning the toss.
Tim Howson got the early breakthrough with the wicket of Amit Gupta. But Vignesh Venkatesh and Atharva Zore saw Braywood approach drinks in a safely through to drinks at 75 for 2 when Zore fell for 19. But post drinks the match totally changed and with the loss of Venkatesh for 40 to Rahul Mohindru then Braywood fell to 116 all out with skipper Manvir Dhaliwal taking 4 for 6 and Sehaj Dhaliwal 3 for 32.
In response James Docker (28) and Joseph Summers (26) saw off the new ball and Jacob Parry (26 not out) and Ben Atkin (21) accelerated to the winning line with Gowtham Yeramanasetti scoring the winning boundary for a 7 wicket win with more than 21 overs remaining. A welcome win for the 2s who will now look to build from here.
3s v Datchet 3
At Locks Ride, the 3s welcomed Datchet 3. Ascot won the toss and decided to field first. Ascot suffered an early blow with an injury to captain, Omair Sheikh. Datchet’s innings was built around opener Gareth Breen with 71 and with Aqeel Raja scoring a quick 34 not out, to help them reach 238 for 8 off 40 overs. Naeem Mohammad was the star bowler for Ascot with 3 for 25.
In response, Ascot were equal to the challenge as Sadiq Khan (22) and Haseeb Khan (73) laid the foundation with 70 for the first wicket and Ghulam Siddiqui (87 not out) and Waqas Ashraf (34 not out) saw the 3s home by 8 wickets and 21 balls remaining. The 3s now have back-to-back wins.
Datchet 4 v 4s
The 4s were in familiar surroundings as they went back to the same pitch at Home Park, Windsor, but this time the opponents were Datchet 4. Datchet won the toss and elected to field first.
Ascot started strongly with the top order all contributing, Elliot Mills (45), Toby Dodwell-Bennett (35), Dirk Benneyworth (53) and Herath Bandana (28) but when acceleration at the end of the innings was needed, wickets fell instead and Ascot finished on 187 for 7 off 40 overs, around 20 – 25 runs short of what they had hoped.
In response, Datchet reached the target with an easy 6 wicket win with Anil Kakaria and Aun Altaf top scoring with 49. A disappointing end after the strong results the previous week.
