Week 5 – Rain 4 – Cricket 0

Having been blessed with good weather in May, it was too much to hope that the start of June would continue the sequence.

Ruislip 1 v 1s

The 1s continued on their journey of London boroughs, with a trip to Ruislip in North West London. With DLS likely to be in play, whoever won the toss was likely to field first, and Ascot duly obliged when they won the toss.

Ascot struck early with the wicket of Padraic Byrne caught & bowled by Will Powell but that was to be the only success for a while as Nik Mills (39) and Stephen Windsor (79) put on 110 for the second wicket. The brakes were applied when Wendell Sebastian came on and take 4 for 35, to see Ruislip slip to 146 for 5.

However, with Sebastian finishing his spell, Ruislip were able to gain momentum again, typified by a brutal 18 runs off Adam Smith’s second over, which saw Ruislip score 110 off the last 10 overs with Rahul Madhok finishing with 91 not out off 56 deliveries with 7 fours and 5 sixes.

However, the rain came and with no chance of a 20 over innings the match was abandoned.

2s v White Waltham 2

White Waltham were the visitors to the Racecourse Ground. White Waltham won the toss and duly elected to field first.

Ascot started well with skipper Manvir Dhaliwal (37) and James Docker (36) putting on 80 for the first week, but they will be disappointed as 6 batters got starts but did not get over 20, to see Ascot reach 181 all out with 4 deliveries left. Anu Mudalige took 4 for 27 and Sreekanth Surendran 3 for 30 for White Waltham.

But during the tea break the rain set in and the match was eventually abandoned.

3s v Slough 6

At Locks Ride, Slough made the short trip to Winkfield. The 3s won the toss and fielded first. Slough were in early trouble at 56 for 4 but Ansh Sharma Sr (60) and Sunil Bindra (51) putting on 96 for the sixth wicket. This enabled Slough to reach 221 for 9 off 40 overs. But again as tea was taken the rain came and settled in for a couple of hours for the match to be abandoned.

Maidenhead Royals 2 v 4s

Ascot made the trip to Claires Court School, where the main surprise of the day was Maidenhead Royals winning the toss and electing to bat first. Ascot bowled and fielded well with Maidenhead Royals at 71 for 8 with Irfan Lone taking 4 for 47 but Saquib Mohammed saved the day for the Royals with 75 not out off 77 deliveries to get them to a respectable 169 all out off 36.3 overs. But as with the other matches, the rain came at tea and the match was abandoned.
