Week 15 – Singh off

Kew 2 v 1s

Ascot made the trip to the London borough of Richmond-upon-Thames to visit Kew at their main ground. Kew won the toss and elected to bat first. Kew’s line up included the star of the division and Level 4 in the TVCL, Sreshtjot Singh, who had over 1,200 league runs and 30 league wickets. In the first league fixture at the Racecourse he scored 163 and took 2 for 33.

Kew started well as Ram Trichur (53) and Sunil Chandrasekaran (35) put on 92 for the first wicket in less than 13 overs. Ascot’s Rahul Singh taking the first wicket. This brought Sreshjot to the wicket and he started strong with a couple of 4s and a six but he was then bowled by Rahul Singh for 18 as he took the first 3 wickets for 59.

Ascot were then able to reduce the run rate with some good bowling and fielding from Harry Johnston, Shakil Ahmed (3 for 32) and Adam Smith (2 for 29) with Kew ending on 258 for 8 in 45 overs with Manpreet Athwal (44) and Robert Tindall (32 not out) being the other main contributors.

Ascot started well with the openers Ed Clark and Dan Mallett (31) putting on 72 for the first wicket. But then the main fireworks started as Ed Clark (81) and Rahul Singh (103) put on 142 for the second wicket to take Ascot close. Despite several quick wickets, Ascot won with 4 wickets and nearly 8 overs remaining. Charlie Weeks took 3 for 60 for Kew.

2s v Wokingham 4

At the Racecourse, Wokingham were the visitors and they elected to field on winning the toss. Ascot struggled and were 40 for 5. Razwan Hanif (54) and Thomas Clarke (48) enabled Ascot to reach 169 all out but it did not look enough. Alex O’Keeffe was the pick of the Wokingham attack.

Wokingham made light work of the total losing just one wicket in the chase as Chinmay Kulkarni (104 not out) and Jitto Joseph (31 not out) saw Wokingham home with more than 10 overs remaining.

3s v Burnham 4

At Locks Ride, Burnham were the visitors and they also elected to field first on winning the toss. Ascot lost early wickets and it needed Thomas Brooke (54) and Usman Mumtaz (34) to dig them out of trouble but with only Amit Singh making 30 after they went, Ascot made 187 all out. Zohair Khan (3 for 17) and Feisal Gulfraz (3 for 27) were the pick of the Burnham attack.

Burnham attacked Ascot from ball 1 and with the top order all contributing including 50 from Danish Sheikh. Burnham reaching the winning line with 4 wickets and 10 overs in hand.

Wargrave 4 v 4s

The 4s made the trip to Wargrave. Ascot won the toss and elected to field first. Ascot started strongly and had Wargrave in trouble at 70 for 5, but Hiteesh Lingala (42) and Guy Fergusson (49) got Wargrave back on track and helped them to 191 for 9 off 40 overs. Ashwin Vasudevan took 3 for 38 for Ascot.

In response, Ascot started well but then lost wickets at regular intervals. Murray Barter (33), Ashwin Vasudevan (32) and Dirk Benneyworth (27) kept Ascot in the chase but it was not enough as they eventually fell for 166 all out. Advik Gupta took 4 for 40 for Wargrave
