Unfortunately rain was the main winner from last Saturday’s matches – although all 4 XIs were able to start their matches.
Saturday 1st XI vs Cove 2nd XI
An abandoned draw for the 1st XI – but a case of a 25 point win being missed due to rain. Batting first, Royal Ascot made 240 for 7 after declaring at 51 overs. Great contributions from Patrick Edrich 80, Jack Kendall 44 Will Ellison 31 and a run a ball 30 not out from Gareth Baker.
In reply the game was well poised with Cove 188 for 8 when they came off for bad weather with 8.5 overs remaning. Will Ellison the pick of the bowlers with 4 for 51, with Nick Wiggett taking 2 and Sam Burling and Tim Howson chipping in with a wicket each.
The 1st XI in 3rd place in Division 3A, 16 points behind 2nd placed Aldershot.
Saturday 2nd XI vs Thatcham Town 3rd XI
Another frustrating day for the 2nd XI. Batting first, they posted 243 for 1 after declaring at 36 overs. Gary Clarke went for a duck but Arup Viderthy 100 not out and Tharindu 111 not out placed Royal Ascot in a strong position.
But rain won the day again with 24 overs remaining and the game interestingly placed as Thatcham reached 191 for 7. Saeed Ahmed finished with 4 for 40 and Jason Carr with 2 for 21.
The 2nd XI are still top in Division 6B, 14 points ahead of Hurst 2.
Saturday 3rd XI vs Fleet 2nd XI
The only game to actually finish ended in a losing draw for the 3rd XI against a strong Fleet 2s. Fleet batted first and declared on 220 for 4 after 41 overs. In reply, Ascot never looked like winning the match even with 49 overs to reach the target and ended on 181 for 5, with Extras being the top scorer with 63.
However, this was enough to remain above Fleet 2s at the top of Division 7A by 9 points.
Saturday 4th XI vs Theale & Tilehurst 3rd XI
Another exciting finish was dashed by the rain. The 4th XI batted first and 255 for 9 in 47 overs with Jon Prowse scoring 123. Theale & Tilehurst were going well in the run chase and were 172 for 3 off 31 overs when the match was abnadoned.
The 4th XI are currently 5th in Division 8A.
