Thanks to Ben Clark for the following update:

On Sunday evenings, RACC have entered a 6-a-side indoor competition at Eversley Indoor Cricket Centre. The competition is 12 overs per side, with 2 power play (double runs) overs, and a last-man-stands batting rule.

Week 1, RACC were up against Sandhurst CC. With only 5 players at the start of the game, Sandhurst batted first, but struggled with early wickets in the form of 3 run outs, two of which came in consecutive balls off the bowling of Richard Wyatt. Drew regained a bit of momentum for Sandhurst with a counter-attacking 26 before being the second person to be bowled out by Andy Murray, leaving them all out for 100. Andy finished with figures of 2-15 from 3 overs.

The chase started well, however both openers soon fell for single figures from a catch off the bowling of Rafiq, and a run out. Captain Nick Sweetman and Andy wrestled back the momentum with some good power down the ground, finishing on 21* and 10* respectively, sealing a first win by 4 wickets.

Week 2 saw RACC up against Crown Wood CC. Once again Ascot bowled first, and a much improved bowling performance saw Crown Wood restricted to just 67 from their 12. Once again Andy Murray the pick of the bowlers, with a further 2 wickets – this time both caught – accompanying another 3 run outs. Brundish the only batsman really making a start, with 23.

The chase made a positive start, with Ben Clark striking a six in just the second over, before debutant Andrew Hattey closed out the game, with 20*, for another 4 wicket victory. As a result, RACC moved to the top of the league, being the only unbeaten side after just two games.

Our third game saw us up against Woodley CC, and demonstrated our most dominant performance yet. Woodley batted first, and despite a healthy initial run rate lost quick wickets. Another 3 run outs, and 1 wicket each for Elliot Coggins, Jez Hare and Andy Murray saw Woodley fall for 81. Jelon the only batsman to show much resistance with 26.

In reply, a mixture of some good hitting and undisciplined bowling saw 32 taken off the first over, and the total chased in just 7.1 overs. Dan Corsini and Ben Clark batted through, scoring 22* and 13* respectively, and were helped out considerably by 32 wides, showing how important the power play overs are.

In conclusion, an emphatic beginning to the indoor league by Royal Ascot, and long may it continue.
