Week 5 – The Fabulous Baker Brothers

The 1s played host to Thatcham Town at the Racecourse. Ascot won the toss and elected to bat first. James Gamble & Robbie Handley shared a 50 opening partnership but the innings was dominated and held together by 88 from Jez Hare which helped Ascot reach 200 for 5 off 50 overs.

Nick Bishop was the pick of the Thatcham bowlers with 2 for 23 off 10 overs.

Josh O’Flynn got Thatcham off to a flyer with 31 off 22 balls and the momentum was kept up with Rhys Williams 56. A small collapse saw Thatcham wobble from 135 for 2 to 135 for 5 but Jamie Young and Ryan Gilmour saw them home with 4 wickets and 8 overs to spare.

The 1s will be hoping for a change in fortune as they entertain Fleet in the 52/48 format.

The 2s were at Maidenhead & Bray 2s. Ascot lost the toss and momentum as the batted first but struggle against a good attack and were bowled out for 98. Mridul Bhatia was Maidenhead & Bray’s best bowler with 3 for 28.

George Parson’s 40 not out saw them home with 7 wickets and more than 18 overs left for a comprehensive win.

The 2s are on the road again this week at Binfield 2s.

The 3s were the visitors to Binfield 3 at Waltham St Lawrence Cricket Club. Ascot won the toss and batted first.

Runs were hard to come by and it was only a defiant 35 from Tom Dummigan that enabled Ascot to reach 140 all out, as Harry Jones took 4 for 44.

Ian Snelling’s 45 helped Binfield reach the total with ease for only 4 wickets down.

The 3s play host to Wokingham 4s at Valley End CC this Saturday.

The 4s were at home to Finchampstead 5 at Locks Ride.

Ascot won the toss and inserted Finchampstead. Skipper Dave Marles top scored with 41 but Ascot kept Finchampstead down to 153 for 9 off 40 overs with Dylan Baker 3 for 24 and Billy Baker 3 for 26 taking the bowling honours for Ascot.

However, at 3 for 3, then 24 for 4, it looked grim for Ascot. However an unbeaten 5th wicket stand from James Docker 58 not out and skipper Richard Baker 54 not out saw the 4s get a well deserved win by 6 wickets.

The 4s are on the road to Bracknell 2s this week.

The weather has impact the colts this past week but the Under 9s and Under 12s recorded good wins against Bagshot.
