Yet again the weather struck and the 2s match against Binfield 2s and the 4s match against Sonning 3s were the latest victims of the summer schedule.
1s v Finchampstead 3
The 1s travelled to Finchampstead and unsurprisingly were asked to bat first after losing the toss. Despite that, the 1s put on a good batting performance led by Andy Murray 67, Mike Breet 63 and Dan Corsini 36 to finish on a respectable 224 for 7 off 52 overs.
Ollie Armstrong-Wood was the pick of the Finch bowling attack with figures of 11-1-36-3.
But as conditions improved, Finch made the most of the wicket led by openers Tom Potter 112 and Gary Loveday 49 to set Finch on course to victory. Thanks to an epic bowling performance from Andy Murray with figures of 7-1-16-4, Finch were made to battle to victory and managed to get over the line with 7 balls and 4 wickets to spare.
3s v Cove 3
The 3s were on the road and over the county border to Hampshire in Cove. Skipper Naeem won the toss and elected to bowl first.
The Ascot attack on the whole managed to keep the runs down and restricted Cove to 126 for 8 off their 40 overs. Andrew Short top scored with 31 and was supported by Danny Gilbertson 21 not out. The wickets were shared around the Ascot bowlers.
But, it was not meant to be, as Ascot struggled and only 2 Ascot batsman made double figures with Dan Mallett and Naeem both reaching 12. Even extras could only manage 9! Danny Gilbertson 4 for 12 and Matthew Ashwood 3 for 18 ensured that they dominated this low scoring match as Ascot subsided to 53 all out in 25.4 overs and a 73 run defeat.
Let’s hope the weather and the results start to improve.
