Week 11 – Life is Just a Bowl(es) of Cherries

Fleet v 1s

The 1s crossed the county border down the M3 to Fleet. Fleet won the toss and elected to bat first. Their innings revolved around the opener, Bruce Friderichs, who made 90. With support from the middle order, Fleet made a very competitive 231 all out off 48.5 overs. Owen Bowles was the star of the Ascot attack with his 5fer – 5 for 50 for the 1s.

Unfortunately in response most of the Ascot batting misfired with the exception of Christof Karemaker 49 and Andy Murray 44. Ascot made 154 all out in 44.5 overs.

2s v Newbury

At the Racecourse Ground the 2s hosted Newbury. Ascot won the toss and elected to bat first. Edward Clarke 44, Jez Wing 32 and Jem Bains saw Ascot reach 132 for 3. But then Kevin Mills with 4 for 37, put Newbury in charge as Ascot subsided to 165 all out in 42.1 overs.

A couple of early wickets gave Ascot hope but John Duncan 54 and Shailesh Sawant 43 eased any worries as Newbury won by 5 wickets.

Thatcham Town 3 v 3s

The 3s made the trip to Thatcham and won the toss and elected to bat first. Skipper Tom Clarke 65 and James Docker 53 with contributions down the order helped Ascot make a very strong 237 for 9 off 40 overs.

In response, Ascot kept the bowling and fielding tight and even when not taking wickets, Thatcham saw the required run rate steadily increase. 7 batters got into double figures but despite Babu Periyasamy top scoring with 40, Thatcham fell short on 160 for 7. Tom Robinson was the pick of the attack with 3 for 13.

4s v Cookham Dean 4

Cookham Dean 4 forfeited the match – so 22 points for the 4s but if Cookham Dean 4 forfeit another match then they may be removed from the league and all results will be deleted.
