Week 17 – Angel’s Wings

Cove v 1s

The 1s made the trip down the M3 to Cove with a win potentially keeping their hopes of Division 2 status alive. Cove won the toss and elected to bow first.

The midweek rain meant that the conditions were not easy and while wickets fell regularly, the batter stuck to the task to try and get a decent total on the scoreboard. Ollie Clarke (32) and Billy Baker (29) helped Ascot reach 165 all out with just over 2 overs remaining. The wickets were shared among the 6 bowler attack for Cove.

In response, Ascot made life difficult for Cove despite them having the better of the conditions. Mike Brown took 3 for 37 but Cove prevailed in the end with Nicholas Farr (55) and Gavin Sinclair (42) helping them to a 3 wicket win with 12 overs remaining.

Despite the 1s putting on a good performance, relegation to Division 3 was confirmed.

2s v Bagshot 2

Bagshot made the short trip to the Racecourse Ground and were put into bat against the 2s. Alex Murray (12) and Chris Fletcher (47) got Bagshot off to a good start but then 69 for 1 became 76 for 5 as Harry Johnston took 3 for 18.

Some lower middle order contributions helped Bagshot get the scoreboard moving again but with Jacob Parry taking 3 for 19, Bagshot were all out for 148 with nearly 7 overs remaining.

The 2s started well with Dylan Baker (34) but as with Bagshot collapsed and went from 52 for 0 to 67 for 5, as James Balcombe took 3 for 20. Harry Johnston helped bring Ascot back into with 33, but was 8th wicket down for 123, which soon became 125 for 9.

But Jez Wing with 21 not out and a crunching boundary to finish the game was ably supported by Andy Wiggett (6 not out) to see Ascot scrape to a 1 wicket win.

A win that should help keep them in Division 5 next season.

3s v Bracknell 2

A top of the table battle at Locks Ride saw Bracknell put the 3s into bat. Ascot started poorly and thanks to the lower order wagging with Tom Clarke top scoring with 35, helped Ascot get to 146 all out off 36.1 overs. Thiru Mohan took 3 for 45 for Bracknell.

Tom Clarke had Bracknell in trouble with 4 for 8 and Bracknell were 20 for 4 and then 50 for 5 but Chris Chandler (50 not out) helped shore up the innings and see them to a 4 wicket win with 7 overs remaining.

The 3s are now out of the top 2 and will need to rely on other results to get in the promotion spots.

Eversley 4 v 4s

The 4s were on the road to Eversley who needed a win to keep their division title chase on track. Eversley won the toss and batted first. Daniel Aston (114 not out), Maneesh Mali (61 not out) and Bill Burnett (49) kept them on track with a formidable 254 for 2 off 40 overs.

That was more than enough as only Naeem Mohammad made double figures with 23 as the 4s were bowled out for 67. Jonny Heywood took 3 for 8 for Eversley.

Despite that setback the 4s should be safe with a guaranteed 6th place.
