Week 15 – Hope

Despite the intermittent showers we managed to get all four league matches in last weekend.

Fleet v 1s

The 1s made the short journey down the M3 to Fleet led by Myles Trainor. Fleet won the toss and elected to bat first.

The openers went relatively early but the two in-form Fleet batters – Nilesh Odedra and Bruce Friedrichs powered the innings on with a partnership of 137 for the third wicket. Odedra fell for 66 off 95 balls and started a small collapse which also saw Friedrichs fifth batter out on 183 after making 80 off 75 balls.

David Gurney (37) and Alex Leavold (22 not out) took Fleet to 255 for 7 off 45 overs with Andy Murray the pick of the Ascot attack with 3 for 46.

Owen Bowles (49) and Kamran Hanif (55) got Ascot off to a strong start with an opening partnership of 97. Jem Bains (41) helped keep the momentum going but with Ascot starting to get behind the run rate, Tamoor Hussain’s innings of 30 not out of 18 balls and Razwan Hanif with 62 not out off 84 balls helped Ascot win by 7 wickets with 11 deliveries remaining.

2s v Henley 3

At the Racecourse Ground, Ascot won the toss and elected to field first. Henley made a strong start going at 6 runs per over. Rob Kenworthy (35), Matthew Donovan (34) and Prakash Gurung (46 not out) kept the momentum going but the backbone of the innings was Adam Lubbock’s 121 which swung the match in Henley’s favour as they made 290 for 6 off 45 overs.

Ascot needed a strong start to have a chance, but 0 for 2 and 18 for 3 effectively ended Ascot’s hopes. Ghulam Mizra (58) and Waqas Ashraf (46) helped bring some respectability to the score as Ascot finished on 186 all out.

Amandeep Singh with 3 for 10 and Matthew Donovan with 3 for 43 were the pick of the Henley attack.

3s v Cove 3

The 3s had an important bottom of the league clash with Cove 3 at Lock’s Ride. Cove won the toss and elected to field first. Ryan Kooperwitz impressed opening the batting with a well made 67, but the star batter was Hassan Sohail. He made 129 not out off 60 deliveries with 12 fours and 10 sixes.

He made his century in the final over of the match as the over went for:

6, No ball, 6, 6, 6, 6, 6

as Ascot finished on 281 for 3 off 40 overs.

7 Cove batters got into double figures but with wickets falling at regular intervals including three run outs, they could not keep up with the run rate and despite Tejaswi Pahariya’s 60, they made 192 for 8 off 40 overs.

Finchampstead 5 v 4s

Finchampstead won the toss and elected to bowl first. On a tricky wicket to get in on, Ascot relied firstly on Jonathan Searle (70) and then at the end of the innings Manvir Dhaliwal (52 not out) to get to a very respectable 211 for 6 off 40 overs.

Lewis O’Donoghue got Finch off to a good start with 47 but skipper Richard Wyatt with 3 for 16 and Mike Wyatt with 3 for 24 ensured that Ascot would win as Finch ended on 184 all out with 5 deliveries remaining.
