1s v Bracknell United
Bracknell United were the visitors to Ascot, and on winning the toss elected to bat first. Fahad Anwar fell lbw early to Kai Randell, but Amol Tyagi (68) and Suman Ganguly (45) put Bracknell in a strong position with a partnership of 110 for the second wicket. Both fell within 6 runs of each other, but then Manpreet Singh continued the momentum and made 95 off 74 balls before falling in the last over with Steve Naylor taking the catch off Will Powell’s bowling, as Bracknell reached 296 for 8 off their 45 overs. Tamoor Hussain took 3 for 59 for Ascot.
In response, both openers fell leaving Ascot on 43 for 2, but Rahul Singh and Steve Naylor got Ascot back on track and were 195 for 2 after 30 overs, leaving the match finely balanced.
But Bracknell then managed to start taking wickets at critical moments. Rahul Singh fell for 74 lbw to Vipin Taliyan, first ball after the drinks break. Billy Baker was then run out by the same bowler quickly after.
Adam Smith was then caught behind for 4, and Nick Wiggett lbw to Sri Akshay Kondapalli leaving Ascot on 243 for 6. However, Steve Naylor went on to make a fine century and looked to be guiding Ascot home when he fell lbw to Sri Akshay Kondapalli for a fine 118.
Bracknell were in the box seat, but Tamoor Hussain then scored quickly leaving Ascot needing 3 runs off 3 balls. But Atif Nasim held his nerve as he bowled Tamoor, and then next delivery run out Will Powell to complete a 2-run victory. Sri Akshay Kondapalli took 3 for 69. The victory moves Bracknell United to the top of the league table.
Yateley v 2s
Ascot were on the road to Yateley in a match critical to both sides as they looked to kick-start their season. Yateley won the toss and elected to bat first. Ascot started well as the opening pair of Rajiv Docker and Tim Howson reduced Yateley to 28 for 3. George Murphy (43) and captain Jacques Pienaar helped rebuild the innings as they took the score to 99 before Murphy was bowled by Vishal Vijay.
Pienaar finely fell for a well struck 72 but he was the first of four victims as Rahul Mohindru wrapped up the tail to take 4 for 14, as Yateley were all out for 180 with 5 deliveries remaining.
James Docker and Deep Mohain put on 51 for the first wicket for Ascot and despite losing Razwan Hanif quickly, Ascot keep with the run rate as Deep Mohain (32), Rajiv Docker (31) and Andy Murray (29 not out) with Tom Clarke (12 not out) saw Ascot to a six wicket win with 2 overs remaining. A welcome win for the 2s after a tough start to the season.
Windsor 4 v 3s
The 3s made the trip to Home Park and elected to bat first. Despite losing Martin Kay quickly, the 3s made good progress and their innings was built around three fine innings. Opener Hassan Sohail gave the innings quick impetus with a fine 73 off 55 deliveries. Muhammad Saria then kept the momentum going with 43, before Gyan Patel aided by the tail including Aizaz Hussain (28) finished the innings with 72 not out. Ascot finished on a strong 275 for 9 off 40 overs.
Windsor lost a couple of early wickets but with Umar Kayani at the crease then anything was possible. But when he was bowled by Amit Singh for 75 leaving Windsor on 134 for 5. The end was near and the final 7 wickets fell for just 19 runs as Windsor finished on 151 all out with more than 15 overs remaining. Amit Singh was the pick of the Ascot attack with 4 for 46.
4s v Yateley 2
Yateley 2 were the visitors at Locks Ride. Ascot won the toss and elected to bat first. It was going to be a long day in the field, as captain Ishaan Banerjee made it consecutive centuries with 112 and Alex Dennis with 154 (including 23 fours and 6 sixes) put on a record 320 for the opening partnership. Ascot finished on 378 for 4 off the 40 overs – another record for Ascot.
Yateley started brightly with captain James Henstock scoring 46 and Jez Daines 69, but they were unable to keep up with the required run rate and wickets fell at the end of the innings in pursuit of the total as Harry Meadows took 3 for 19 and Harry Winning 3 for 31, as Yateley finished on a respectable 205 for 9. Another good win for the 4s.
