The sun returned after the near washout of Week 5 fixtures.
1s v Fleet
Fleet were the visitors to the main ground as the 52/48 over matches started. Fleet won the toss and elected to field first. Dan Mallett and Kamran Hanif fell to Jack Lysaght in the first 8 overs but Rahul Singh and Steve Naylor started to rebuild the innings. In just over 30 overs they put on 207 runs for the third wicket until Steve fell 5 short of a well deserved century. However, Rahul was well supported by the middle order as Ascot looked for quick runs and he finished on a 1st XI league individual score record of 177 not out, as Ascot declared on 327 for 5 off 48 overs. Sam Holmes finished on 3 for 107 for the visitors.
In reply, Fleet lost Nilesh Odera after just 2 balls, but then Nir Vaishnav (52) and Lewis Burns (61) helped Fleet get back on track. They both fell within 4 runs of each other, leaving Fleet on 123 for 3. Riley Huddlestone was then out for 11, but Bruce Friderichs and David Gurney kept the momentim going. When Friderichs (41) was neatly caught by Dan Mallett and bowled by Billy Baker and then Sam De Beer was bowled next ball, then at 202 for 6 with over 16 overs left, Fleet shut up shop.
Gurney (37) fell to Billy Baker for figures of 3 for 46. But Josh Watts and Sam Holmes held on to see Fleet to the draw on 249 for 8 off 52 overs. A disappointing end for Ascot but a strong performance nonetheless.
Hounslow & Whitton 2 v 2s
The 2s made the trip to Whitton Park. Ascot won the toss and elected to field first. Gurpreet Singh (21) fell to Razwan Hanif and captain Mark Bitmead (3) to Tim Howson, both caught by Amit Singh to leave Hounslow & Whitton 43 for 2. But the middle order accelerated with Akhilesh Mohan Nair (70), Ranveer Tomar (54), Khuram Malik (51) and Saqib Malik (41) saw Hounslow ^ Whitton to an impressive 289 for 8 off 45 overs. Tom Clarke was Ascot’s most successful bowler with 3 for 50.
Ascot started steadily with Thomas Brooke making 53, but the run-rate started to increase and an injection of runs was needed. Toby Dodwell-Bennett gained some momentum to the innings with 43 and Gyan Patel (33) helped Ascot remain in touch. But despite the best efforts of Mohammad Qasim (57 not out) and Tom Clarke (43 not out), Ascot finished short by 12 runs on 277 for 6.
Emmbrook & Bearwood 3 v 3s
The 3s made the trip to Charvil for the match against Emmbrook & Bearwood 3. Ascot won the toss and elected to field first. Emmbrook & Bearwood were soon in trouble at 33 for 5 with the wickets shared by 4 bowlers. Pruthvee Narang (44) and Arunda Verma (47) led the recovery with a 94 run sixth wicket partnership before Naeem snared both batters. But Aadi Jain with a quick 40 saw Emmbrook & Bearwood to 203 all out in the final over. Returning skipper Omair Sheikh returned figures of 3 for 10.
Despite losing Zach Folly early, Ascot went about the target quickly and Hassan Sohail (82) and Waqas Ashraf (82 not out) out on 165 for the second wicket. Gowtham Yeramanasetti then joined Waqas to see Ascot win by 8 wickets with just under 15 overs remaining,
4s v Aldershot 5
At Locks Ride, Aldershot 5 were the visitors and they were put into bat when Ascot won the toss. That decision by Ascot was vindicated as Raf Bocchio tore through the top and middle order to take 5 for 21, and with No.9 Hijran Kazimi top scoring with 17, Aldershot subsided to 56 all out in 22 overs.
Aldershot 5 started well and had Ascot in trouble at 23 for 4, but Martin Kay (23 not out) and Harry Meadows (6 not out) saw Ascot to the line with a 6 wicket win with 27 overs remaining.
