1s v Harpsden 1
The 1s were at home to top of the table, Harpsden. Harpsden won the toss and elected to bat first. A tight opening spell from Powell and Baker ensured that Harpsden didn’t get off to a quick start. Docker and Hussain were then introduced into the attack and with Harpsden looking to up the rate lost Hibberdean (16) and Wilson (6) to Rajiv Docker to reduce them to 63 for 2.
The opener Birkett made 44 before he was got to the skipper Naylor leaving them 97 for 3. Whittaker and Jones then put the foot on the accelerator with a quick stand of 60 before Jones fell for 28 before he became Rajiv’s third victim. Whittaker then continued to score freely until he fell for a near run a ball caught by Rahul Singh off the bowling of Stecve Naylor. Harpsden were then 208 for 5 off 44 overs. Harry Meadows then took 2 wickets in the next over.
It was left to Scott Harris to add some late impetus with 35 off 20 before becoming Steve Naylor’s third victim and Harpsden batted out the 52 overs to finish off 259 for 9. A strong performance in the field by Ascot.
Ascot got off to a brisk start before Aramaya Sheikh fell for 13 to Scott Harris. Rahul Singh also fell to 13, as Baker smashed the ball back at the bowler and Harris was able to deflect it back onto the stumps at the non-striker’s end for a run out to leave Ascot on 66 for 2.
But Baker and Naylor were able to get the innings going with a partnership of 117 for the third wicket until Naylor was caught behind for 56 off Jones. But Ascot kept the runs flowing as Adam Smith hit a quickfire 26, while Baker went on to his century and the Billy Baler (123 not out) and Kamran Hanif (8 not out) saw Ascot home by 6 wickets and over 8 overs remaining. A good win over the league leaders.
Pinkneys Green 1 v 2s
The 2s travelled to Pinkneys Green and elected to bat first on winning the toss. Thomas Brooke (34) and captain James Docker (45) gave Ascot a good start. But despite Jeremy Wing with 46 not out, he had little support from the middle and late order as Ascot finished on 184 for 7 off 45 overs.
Pinkneys Green made a strong response as opener Sheyan Patel (41) and No.4 Arun Ramachandran (58) gave a strong platform to win to the match. A late wobble as Pinkneys Green fell from 169 for 5 to 174 for 8 gave Ascot some late hope, but Oli and Alex Fennel saw the Green home by 2 wickets with 17 deliveries left. Larry Hobson was the pick of the Ascot attack with 3 for 40.
Bracknell United 5 v 3s
The 3s made the long trip past Henley to Hambleden to face Bracknell United 5s. Bracknell won the toss and elected to bat first. Ascot produced a great bowling display with opener Ram Kireet Damera top scoring with 24 and despite the several late order batters getting into double figures, Bracknell United finished on 131 all out with Dan Bailey 3 for 11 and Amindeep Singh 3 for 31 taking the bowling plaudits.
Ascot looked to score quickly with Murray Barter anchoring the innings with 29 not out and Ascot were able to win comfortably by 7 wickets with 16 overs remaining.
4s v Sandhurst 2
At Locks Ride, Ascot won the toss and elected to bat first. Openers Myles Trainor (30) and Arun Chandrasekaran (25) gave Ascot a good start but only Bobby Barker (18), Harry Winning (29 not out) and Bas Pal (12) got into double figures after that as Ascot were bowled out for 150 all out with just under 5 overs remaining. Sajjad Abbasi was the destroyer-in-chief of the Sandhurst bowling attack with 5 for 19.
In response, Sandhurst won at a canter by 6 wickets in 22.4 overs with Glen Winning the only Ascot bowler to trouble them with 3 for 41.
