So this weekend there were no matches at the Racecourse Ground as the Red Bull Air Race was taking place and one of the slalom pylons is in our car park!

The 1s were away at Finchampstead 3s. Nick Sweetman lost the toss and Finchampstead decided to bat. The Ascot attack kept things in check by keeping the run rate down and taking wickets at regular intervals. Kevin May picked up 4 for 57 and Will Ellison 3 for 40 as Finchampstead were all out for 146 in 46.3 overs.

In the end it was a comfortable 9 wicket victory as Jack Kendall 38, James Wensley 62 not out and Nick Sweetman 41 not out saw Ascot home in 25.3 overs and 20 points.

The 1s remain top of the table although Thatcham narrowed the gap with a 25 point win. Cove 2 are the visitors on Saturday.

The 2s played at Locks Ride against Cove 3. Stand-in skipper Tony King lost the toss and Ascot were put in. Ascot reached a rapid 271 for 6 declared off 44.3 overs thanks to contributions from Murray Barter 81, Tharindu 51, Rob Handley 34, Oliver Dunnett 28 and 64 extras.

Cove 3 battled hard and the match reached the penultimate over before the final wicket was taken, as Cove reached 133 all out in 53.5 overs. Andy Murray led  the attack with 5 for 32 to take the 25 points.

The 2s are now 50 points ahead at the top of the table and are away at Thatcham Town 3.

The 3s travelled to Wokingham 4s. Stand-in skipper Marc Ames won the toss and elected to bat. Runs were hard to come by against a good Wokingham attack and the shackles were not broken until Chris Nichol 57 and Graham Anderson 30 came to the wicket. The lower order helped reach 175 for 9 declared in 46 overs.

Ascot’s bowling attack bowled extremely well making runs hard to come by as everyone contributed to restrict Wokingham to 105 all out and 25 points.

The 3s remain top of the table and are at home to second placed Fleet 2 on Saturday.

The 4s had to travel to Farnborough for a “home” match against Reading 4s. Ralph Weeks lost the toss and was inserted on a wet wicket, Their total of 155 for 8 was in main due to Danny Parker’s 76. Kriss Hemming with 3 for 46 and S Warayanasay 4 for 46 were responsible for the damage and also ended up seeing Reading 4s home to victory with 45 and 64 not out respectively to see them home by 4 wickets after being 33 for 5.

Ascot are in 5th place and travel to Theale & Tilehurst 3 on Saturday.
