This week we start off with congratulating the 2s on winning the Division 6B League Title with two matches to spare. They travelled to Thatcham 3s and Jason Carr inserted the opposition on a damp wicket. 31.3 overs later the match was over. Thatcham were bowled out for 38 in 24.4 overs with Andy Murray the star performer with match figures of 12.4 overs 8 maidens 7 wickets for 5 runs.
The 2s then knocked of the runs in 6.5 overs for the loss of 2 wickets – albeit that extras were the highest scorer with 22.
The 2s are now 59 points clear of second placed Chiswick & Whitton 3s with only two matches left. The 2s have won 12 out of their 16 matches so far. Top performers so far are Tharindu with 637 league runs and Jason Carr, Andy Murray and Saeed Ahmed all have over 30 league wickets to date. Next week the 2s host Hurst 2 at the Racecourse.
On Sunday 30th August, our Under 11s will be playing in the West Surrey Cricket League Cup Final against East Molesey so we wish them all the best.
The 1s were at home to Cove 2s. Nick Sweetman won the toss but it went downhill quickly as they were quickly 0 for 2. Despite six batsman getting into double figures the top scorer was Nick Sweetman with 38 and the 1s were all out for 150,
Cove 2s chased down the total in just over 35 overs for the loss of 4 wickets as Thomas Redhead scored a run a ball 106 not out. Kevin May took 3 wickets.
However, the teams below Ascot also lost and the 1s are still top by just 14 points as they face a tricky away match at Newbury on Saturday.
The 3s had a top of the table clash with Fleet 2s at Lock’s Ride. Fleet won the toss and inserted Ascot on a slightly damp wicket. Runs were hard to score in the first 30 overs thanks to some tight Fleet bowling and a drying wicket. Ascot only managed to post a reasonable total of 189 for 9 off 47 overs thanks to contributions from Mike Wyatt 44 not out, Josh Oshea 42 and George Payne 31.
Fleet 2s started well but when Payne was out caught behind Fleet lost 5 wickets fairly quickly. But then George Nye (55) and Ciaran Byrne (44) put Fleet in control and within sight of winning the match with a great 6th wicket stand. But a great 4 wicket spell from Mike Wyatt including removing Nye and Byrne and with George Payne chipping in with the wicket of Stilwell, Fleet fell short by 13 runs with 4.2 overs remaining.
That win helped Ascot 3s move 40 points clear at the top of the table and they will next visit Finchampstead 4s.
The 4s were away to Theale & Tilehurst 3s. Ralph Weeks won the toss and batted first but the 4s struggled and were bowled out for 130. Theale & Tilehurst then reached the total for the loss of only 3 wickets in the 34th over.
The 4s remain in fifth place and entertain Finchampstead 5s at Locks Ride.
