On the Colts front there are several good results to report on.

The Under 9s beat Camberley in the West Surrey Cup and the Under 13s are through to the Quarter Finals of the Berkshire Cup with a win over Cookham Dean and will face either Henley or Littlewick Green in the next round.

The Under 12s beat Walton-on-Thames and Valley End in the West Surrey League, and the Under 8 Lions beat Bagshot in the West Surrey League.

This week the 1s were up against Hurst. Ascot batted first and despite some useful contributions from Will Ellison 38, James Wensley 25, Nick Wiggett 19, Tom Clarke 18 not out and Jack Kendall 18 – no one went on to get a big score as we finished on 162 for 9 off 52 overs.

Philip Higgs was the pick of the Hurst bowlers – bowling from one end for the whole innings for 26 overs, 8 maidens, 6 wickets for 55 runs.

Ascot were in the hunt with two early Mike Brown wickets but 65 not out from Lewis Smith and 44 from skipper Ollie Lovegrove saw Hurst take all 25 points to win by 6 wickets with over 9 overs left.

So Ascot drop to 2nd place and next week are away at Wargrave.

The 2s were on a road trip to Falkland 3s. Falkland won the toss and elected to bat first but soon found themselves in trouble as Joshua Oshea reduced them to 34 for 3 and two quick wickets from Tim Howson saw them at 39 for 5. Despite some defiance from the middle and lower order including 34 by Sandeep Metha, they were bowled out for 124 in 38.2 overs.

Ascot knocked off the runs in just over 30 overs for the loss of only two wickets as Howard Green 36 and Jeremy Wing 44 not out to add to his two run outs saw Ascot home.

That win leaves Ascot joint top with Bagshot 2s are the visitors to the Racecourse on Saturday.

The 3s were away to Theale & Tilehurst 2s. Theale won the toss and after a solid start made an impressive 255 for 5 off 52 overs with Sachin Rane taking the batting honours with a fine 101, ably supported by the rest of the batsmen.

Despite a strong opening partnership between Gary Clarke 48 and Murray Barter 39, boundaries were difficult to get and Ascot ended up on 175 for 7 off 48 overs for a losing draw. Theale’s skipper Brian Cooper took the bowling plaudits with 4 for 54.

The 3s face table toppers Wargrave 2s at Locks Ride on Saturday.

The 4s were at home to Reading 4s who batted first at Locks Ride. Their innings was built around two good half centuries from Wazir Khan 62 and Alvin Waterman 58 to make 214 for 8 off 47 overs.

In the end the run rate was just too much for Ascot despite several good contributions from James McElgunn 54, Richard Baker 35, Shagneet Banerjee 27 and Dan Corsini 26 as Ascot fell 8 runs short on 207 for 8 from 43 overs. Jack Wright and Grant Benbow shared the wickets with 4 each for Reading.

The 4s are away to 2nd placed Datchet 4s next week.
