It has been a quieter week on the Colts front as it was half-term but the Under 9s and Under 12s managed to get in a couple of wins during the period.

On Saturday the 1s were at Wargrave 1s and were asked to bat first. Runs were hard to come by and despite 27 from Nick Sweetman, Ascot found themselves at 64 for 7. But a 74 run partnership between Andy Murray (65 not out)  and Nick Wiggett (10) plus some quick runs from Tom Clarke (15 not out) saw  Ascot finish the 52 overs on 162 for 8.

Despite the early loss of Imran Malik, Wargrave were making good progress when a collapse saw them go from 67 for 1 to 77 for 6. Tom Prentis made 30 and Matt Townson 39.

Neal Robinson provided the main resistance and with 36 not out there was still hope but in the end Wargrave were bowled out for 141 with 10 balls remaining. Man of the match – Andy Murray returning season best figures of 6 for 41 supported by Ollie Dunnett with 2 for 46.

The win say Royal Ascot remain 2nd in the table.

Bagshot 2s were the visitors to the Racecourse Ground and they inserted Ascot 2s. Again runs were hard to get but Ascot reached a respectable 167 for 8 with contributions from  Jeremy Wing 39 and Joshua Oshea 37. Tony Roome was the pick of the Bagshot bowlers with 3 for 32 from 15 tight overs.

But it was not enough as Bagshot reached the target comfortably for just the loss of two wickets – Geoff Young 73 not out, Jeremy Davis 46 and Mark Dawson 26 not out – seeing Bagshot to 4 wins out of 5.

A special mention should go skipper Dan Sutton from Bagshot. The Spirit of the Game is truly alive as when our skipper Jason Carr asked for a substitute to keep for us as our own keeper had to leave after the ball hit him – not only did he oblige but he offered to put the pads on himself and keep wicket for us!

At Locks Ride the 3s entertained Wargrave 2s. After electing to bat first – well there is not much more to say than Ascot were 63 all out! It was to the skipper’s relief that we managed to make them get the total for 4 wickets but Wargrave truly outplayed the 3s and are deserved League Leaders with 5 wins out of 5. A defeat by 6 wickets feels quite positive as they had previously won by 146 runs, 8 wickets, 7 wickets and 8 wickets!

Finally the 4s were at Windsor Home Park against Datchet 4s. Ascot 4s were put in to bat and made 159 for 9 off 47 overs. Jimmy McElgunn the main contributor with 44 while Julian Bromley took 6 for 72 for Datchet.

However despite being 0 for 1, Datchet reached the total with the loss of only one more wicket as Apoorv Bajpal made 64, Peter Horry 37 not out and Sachin Pathak 28 not out.
