First of all commiserations and congratulations to the Under 9s. They just fell short in the final against Horsley & Send on Sunday. However, they still have two other chances this season as they have won their divisions in the Berkshire and the West Surrey Leagues and now go on later this summer to the play-offs.

The 1s were at High Wycombe 2s and won the toss and elected to field. High Wycombe put on an impressive 256 for 8 from 52 overs aided by 65 from John Stevens and 62 from Xavier Owen. Andy Murray with 3 for 53 and Kevin May with 3 for 63 were the pick of the Ascot bowlers.

Jack Kendall 45 and James Wensley 24 got Ascot off to a good start. Nick Sweetman made 43 and thanks to Will Ellison 54 not out and Rob Handley 48, Ascot managed to reach the total in the last over and get the 25 points – taking Ascot into 3rd place in Division 2b.

The 2s entertained Aldershot 2s, again winning the toss and electing to field.  The decision seemed vindicated as Aldershot were bowled out for 181 in the 39th over, Saeed Ahmed taking 4 for 63 and Myles Trainor 3 for 16, while Neil Mumby helped Aldershot to a respectable score with 65.

But, Ascot found runs hard to get and despite having 61 overs needed 82 runs in the last 13 overs with only 4 wickets in hand. Tony King 39 and Henry Chapman 31 not out scored rapidly but it was not enough as the match ended in a draw with Ascot 7 runs short and 2 wickets in hand. Ascot remain in 3rd place but have fallen further behind the top 2.

The 3s were at home to Boyne Hill 3s. Boyne Hill won the toss and elected to field. Despite the early loss of Banerjee, Murray Barter 85 not out and Graham Anderson 38 put on 101 for the second wicket. Jack Lunghusen then came out and played the innings that we all knew he was capable of making 118 out of a partnership of 142, with 104 of his runs coming in boundaries. This allowed Ascot to declare on 288 for 3 off 45 overs.

The wicket was good and Boyne Hill kept going for the target with some good batting from Adam Bailes 53, Amman Butt 46, Rob Morgan 44 and Owen Roberts 29. But a devastating second spell from Mike Wyatt with 5 for 49 saw Ascot bowl out Boyne Hill in 42 overs.

Ascot now lie 2nd in a close battle with Wokingham 3s and Cove 3s.

The 4s were at Newbury 2 and won the toss and elected to field. After 39 overs that looked like the wrong decision as Newbury piled on the runs with 279 for 0 – Vivek Srivastava 135 not out and Mike Beaumont 123 not out allowing Newbury to declare with 8 overs to spare.

But Ascot showed resilience and reached 234 for 7 for the draw with Richard Wyatt 51 not out, James McElgunn 46, Ben Clark 31 and Matt Dalton 29 being the main contributors.

Ascot remain in 8th place – albeit tied on points with Reading 4s.
