This week the 1s traveled to Hurst and put Ascot into bat. Some tight bowling saw Ascot slip to 45 for 4 but the middle and lower order did well with Ollie Dunnett 51*, Will Ellison 36, Paddy Edrich 24 and Andy Murray 19* seeing Ascot to a respectable 184 for 6 off 52 overs.

The game swung back and forwards between the two sides as Tom Hibbs 53, Lewis Smith 33 and Usman Ijaz 24 were countered by Andy Murray’s 6 for 72. At 144 for 7, the game was in the balance but Nick Reynolds and Sam Hawkes took the score to 183 – needing only 2 to win.

Kevin May then bowled Hawkes to make it 183 for 8. Next over, Reynolds fell LBW to Andy Murray to make it 183 for 9. The last pair were in Nigel Hawkes and Andrew Ruddock – they set off for a run that would ensure a tie but Ruddock was run out to see Ascot win by 1 run.

The win keeps Ascot 2nd place in the table.

The 2s were at home to Falkland 3s. Ascot won the toss and elected to field. David Horn was top scorer with 60 as Falkland declared on a very healthy 242 for 9.

Unfortunately Ascot’s batting didn’t take off and despite three batsman reaching 30 – no one went on to make the big score. Tony King salvaged some pride but was last man out for 42 as Ascot fell for 192 all out.

Ascot remain in third but fall further behind Bagshot 2 and Boyne Hill 2.

The 3s were at home to Theale & Tilehurst 2s. They elected to field first and  Ascot were in early trouble at 12 for 2. Contributions from several batsmen saw Ascot reach 200 in the last over and finish on 208 for 9, Dan Corsini to scoring with 44.

Theale & Tilehurst struggled to 15 for 3 as Tom Dummigan ripped through the top order. Bozarth and Mothersole restored the innings to 51 for 3 when Theo Hosegood then took 3 wickets in 4 balls to reduce them to 51 for 6. Hosegood went on to record 5 for 34 and Dummigan 4 for 44 as Theale were all out for 101.

Ascot remain in 2nd place.

The 4s traveled to Reading 4s and on winning the toss elected to bat first. Ascot struggled to 23 for 4 but thanks to Charlie Dunnett’s 64 not out on senior debut and James McElgunn’s 63, Ascot reached 179 for 8 off 47 overs.

Wickets fell at regular intervals but Reading held out for the draw making 164 for 9 off 43 overs.

Ascot are in 8th place on the same number of points as Reading 4s.
