The West Surrey Youth Cricket League has now reached the play-off stages so here is a round-up of the season to date.
The Under 8s play in the West Region Development League, and we had two teams, the Lions and the Tigers. Both teams had a great season with the Lions winning the league with 8 wins out of 9 and the Tigers finishing third out 10 teams with 6 wins, so we’re looking forward to see how they do as Under 9s next season.
The Under 9s had a strong season and were unlucky in the end as they finished 2nd in a tough 11 team North League, but only because they had to abandon one match when they were looking odds on to win and also had to concede a match due to lack of flexibility over fixture dates.
The Under 9 Development team had some encouraging results in the 12 team North League and finished 9th overall.
The Under 10s won the North Division with a perfect 8 wins and are now in the Play-Off Finals.
The Under 10 Development team performed well with 4 wins to finish 4th out of 9 teams in the North League.
The Under 11s had some close games in the North Division and finished in a creditable 6th place.
The Under 12s played in the West Division of the Development League and had a tough season finishing last but played with great enthusiasm.
Due to bad weather and also lack of availability, the Under 13s were only able to play 3 of the 8 matches and finished 6th in the West Division and similarly the Under 15s only played 3 out of their 7 matches due to cancellation to finish 5th out of 8 teams in the North Division.
Well done to all the teams, especially as the weather conspired towards the end of the season to get matches in. Good luck to the Under 10s in the Play-Off Finals with their first match at home against Horsley & Send on Friday 1 September and the final match against Farnham on Sunday 17 September.
