Colts Finals Round-Up – Part 1

We have had the League updates but we are now nearing the end of the season – and here is a catch-up on the Finals that have been played to date.

ECB NatWest Under 13 Cup

The Under 13 Cup started back in April – as Royal Ascot played Cookham Dean in the preliminary round of the Berkshire Cup. This was then followed with wins in Round 1 against Henley, Round 2 against Datchet and Quarter Final success against Binfield.

The semi-final and final were played in the same week and first up was at Slough in the semi-final. Ascot batted first and put on a strong performance with 133 for 3 off 20 overs. In the end, Ascot put on a powerhouse performance in the field and Slough were bowled out for 51 to see Ascot through to a home final against Finchampstead.

Finchampstead won the toss and runs were hard to get initially but some strong hitting at the end saw Finchampstead reach 122 for 5 from 20 overs. Ascot started well and were always up with the run rate but never pulled ahead. The match went to the last over and Ascot won with 1 ball to spare with 123 for 4 to become Berkshire Under 13 Cup champions.

Ascot then joined the 39 other county champions in the knock-out stages of the ECB NatWest Under 13 Cup. Ascot had a bye in the first round and had a home match in the Last 32 against Cublington, This ended up being a one-sided affair as Ascot made 170 for 4 off 20 overs and Cublington were bowled out for 24.

The Last 16 and Last 8 matches were in regions and held at St Albans. Ascot faced Shenley Village. Shenley batted first and made a competitive but a very getable target of 135 all out.

Ascot looked in control at 92 for 4 off 14 overs, but an uncharteristic batting collapse saw Ascot fall short at 110 all out. It was a great run and the boys did the club proud. There was a final play-off game in the London & East Regional Finals for 3rd place and the guys finished on a high note by beating the Kent champions, Linton Park. Batting first they scored 200 for 5 and in reply Linton Park could only reach 137 for 7.

This weekend the Under 13s look to make it a League and Cup double with League Final at Slough on Sunday.

Berkshire Under 11 Division 2 Final

Effectively this is the Under 10 league and after winning their division and semi-final, the final was to be played at Falkland CC against Wargrave.

Weather meant that the match was quickly rescheduled and hosted with the Under 9 final at Royal Ascot.

The weather was foul but both sides got on with playing the match. Wargrave batted first and reached 275 off 20 overs. Royal Ascot started well and had made 266 off 10 overs – but with this being pairs cricket and wickets seeing a deduction in runs then nothing could be taken for granted.

Despite the strong start wickets fell regularly and the match was in the balance in the last over but Ascot went on to be champions finishing on 282. A great season with silverware still available in the West Surrey Under 10s.

Berkshire Under 9 Final

The Under 9s won their division and semi-final to make the final against Wokingham. With the match moved to Royal Ascot, they got the better of the weather conditions compared to the Under 11s and batted first. They put on a great total finishing on 305 off their 15 overs.

The boys then put on a strong fielding and bowling performance and Wokingham never got above 215 in their run chase and finished the match on 209 off 15 overs. A great match by the Under 9s to become Berkshire Champions and also pull off the amazing feat where our Under 9s have now been Berkshire champions 3 times in the last 5 years.

As with the Under 10s they will also be competing for West Surrey honours this month – and we’ll update you in Part 2!
