Week 15 – Danger Zone

The last 4 rounds revert to Win/Lose format and this week the 1s entertained Wargrave 1s. Ascot won the toss and elected to bat first. A strong batting performance from everyone including Nick Sweetman 33, Jack Kendall 33 and top scorer Gareth Baker 64 saw Ascot make 229 for 5 off their 50 overs. Jack Clark starred with the ball with 3 for 46.

In the end rain interrupted the match so Duckworth-Lewis came into the equation. Thanks to Sam Bowers 56, Imran Malik 34 but especially Neal Robinson’s 60 not out, then Wargrave run out as winners with 192 for 5 against a DL target of 175. Nick Wiggett took 3 for 33 for Ascot.

The 2s travelled down the M4 to Newbury 1s and were inserted by the opposition. A good start saw Murray Barter 30 and Gary Clarke 68 saw a good opening stand but the middle order stuttered against Charlie Anstey 3 for 25 and Kevin Mills 3 for 36 before the tail wagged and helped the 2s to make 173 all out with 4 balls remaining.

Newbury made a strong start built around Rajeev Hanabe’s 66 not out and when rain intervened after 20 overs, a reduction in overs to 37 saw a revised ARR target of 143 which was reached in 29.1 overs.

The 3s were at home to Yateley 2s and opted to bat first. In the end the joint highest scorers were Shagnik Banerjee 18 and Ben Clark 18 not out to see the 3s post 149 all out.

Despite tight bowling from Mike Wyatt, Tom Dummigan and Satpal’s 3 for 33, the visitors won by 4 wickets with captain Chris Petts top scoring with 34.

The 4s faced the trip to league leaders Hayes 3 – with some trepidation after the large score they reached first time around.

Ascot won the toss and elected to field. Hayes continued where they left off and thanks to Luke Manlow 105, Amit Kumar 54 not out and a 24 ball 50 not out from Vibhorkumar Tripathi made 299 for 4.

In response Ascot managed to make 92 all out thanks largely to Disney Abeyesekara’s 50. Tarsem Kumar took 4 for 10 and Anmol Kullar 3 for 24 for the home side.
