The first result of the weekend took place on Friday night – when Eversley 4s conceded to our 4s. While the 25 points were welcome it is always disappointing for a side to miss a match.

This means the 4s are in 7th position – 52 points clear of 9th place. But more importantly as 2 teams may be relegated to the Thames Valley League from the Home Counties League – the 4s are 43 points ahead of the 8th place team in Division 8b – so they are safe from relegation this season.

The 1s were at home to Beaconsfield – and unfortunately it was a bad day at the office. Ascot bowled out for 112 with only Jack Kendall 45 and Kevin May 24 not out making a significant contribution.

Beaconsfield won comfortably by 6 wickets with Nick Wiggett and Mike Brown taking 2 wickets each. This leaves the 1s in 3rd place.

The 3s also had a disappointing day as they were outclassed by Aldershot 3s, who despite being in the relegation zone have been showing great form in the last 5 weeks. Aldershot made 190 for 6 built on two great innings by Garry Dates 53 and Kyle Kisko 50. This was too many for Ascot despite Jack Lunghusen’s 57 as they fell short by 49 runs. Danny Birch and Joe Parker being the chief destroyers with 4 wickets a piece.

With Wokingham 3 comfortably beating Purley-on-Thames 2, the 3s are now 22 points behind in 3rd place – and promotion very unlikely.

The 2s, however, could remain in the promotion driving seat with a win away at Maidenhead & Bray 2s.

Maidenhead & Bray elected to bat first – but a superb bowling and fielding display restricted them to 70 all out in 42.3 overs with Saeed Ahmed 3 for 25 and Andy Murray 5 for 28 plus 3 outfield catches by Myles Trainor leading the attack.

Ascot reached the total for just the loss of 2 wickets with Jeremy Wing’s 39 not out. The win keeps the 2s in 2nd place – just 3 points ahead of Boyne Hill 2s.
