Week 14 – The Wonderful World of Disney

The 1s were on the road at Thatcham Town 1s. On winning the toss they elected to bat first and soon were in trouble at 1 for 3. However, they managed to bat the 52 overs being bowled out for 142 off the last ball thanks to 56 by Gary Clarke and contributions from the middle and late order.

Nick Bishop was the star performer with the ball with 4 for 28. Thatcham managed to reach the score quite comfortably with 5 wickets and 7 overs in hand. All the batsmen made contributions and Andy Murray was the pick of the Ascot bowlers with 3 for 38.

The 2s lost a nailbiter of a match at home to Maidenhead & Bray 2s. Put into bat first Ascot looked like they would fall quickly at 35 for 5 but thanks to some resistance by Nick Wiggett with 22 they managed to get to 100 all out.

Mridul Bhatia took 4 for 40 and Arul Appavoo 3 for 18.

However, Maidenhead & Bray collapsed to 66 for 9 but a great unbeaten last wicket partnership by No.11 Mridul Bhatia 14 not out and a great innings by Brett Van Niekirk who ended the match with 51 not out saw M&B win by one wicket.

Aarav Radhakrishnan took an amazing 6 for 11 and Myles Trainor 3 for 50 in a great contest.

The 3s were at home to Binfield 3 and elected to bat first. Disney’s 70 was supported by 54 from Murray Barter and 49 by Ben Clark to allow Ascot to declare at 269 for 5 off 51 overs.

In the end Binfield batted out for the draw led by Tim Vines 84 not out and finish on 190 for 6 off 49 overs. Tim Howson was the pick of the bowlers with 3 for 62.

The 4s were away at Finchampstead 5s. Finch were asked to bat first and made 224 all out led by 74 from Dave Higginson. Omair Sheikh took 4 for 43 for Ascot.

In the end Ascot were never in the chase and were bowled out for 136. Tom Clarke top scored with 41 as all seven Finchampstead bowlers took wickets.
