This week has been busy for the Colts, especially for our Under 13s. On Monday they visited Slough to play their Berkshire Cup semi-final. They won the toss and batted first putting on an impressive 133 for 3 in their 20 overs. But even better was their bowling and fielding as they restricted Slough to 51 all out and secure a home final for Wednesday against Finchampstead.

A good crowd turned up to watch two very strong teams. Finchampstead won the toss and elected to bat first. The bowling and fielding was tight in the first 10 overs keeping Finch down to around 4 an over but some explosive hitting and good batting saw them reach 122 for 5 from 20 overs.

Ascot started off well and kept up with the run rate. Leo Beardmore-Gray scored a well deserved 30 before retiring but with 4 overs left and 7 an over needed then it was too close to call. In the end Ascot managed to win the cup with one ball and 6 wickets to spare in an excellent final.

The Under 13s now represent Berkshire in the NatWest National Under 13 Championships.

In other colts news the Under 9s beat Finchampstead Falcons to make it 6 out of 6 in the Berkshire East Division.

The Under 10s beat Woking & Horsell by 102 runs. The Under 8 Lions beat Camberley and the Under 8 Tigers lost to Englefield Green.

The 1s were at home to Aldershot and were asked to bat first. James Wensley 56, Jack Kendall 59, Nick Sweetman 37 and Andy Murray 28 not out saw Ascot reach 225 all out in the 50th over.

Despite 51 not out from Alex Farr and 50 from Rory Collins, Aldershot were never up with the run rate but held on for the draw with 9 wickets down with Kevin May bowling probably one of the best spells of bowling ever seen at the Racecourse Ground taking 5 for 50 in 14 overs. Several crowd members were overheard saying that the bowling was a mixture of guile and variation that is usually only seen in a Shane Warne or Muttiah Muralitharan.

Ascot remain in 7th position as top of the table Beaconsfield are the visitors to the Racecourse Ground.

The 2s visited High Wycombe 3s and were also invited to bat first. George Payne led the way with 52 and Gary Clarke with 49 saw Ascot make 201 for 6 off 52 overs. While Neil Weston top scored with 43, High Wycombe were not able to keep with the run rate but again held on for the draw with 9 wickets down. Saeed Ahmed led the Ascot bowling attack with 5 for 41.

The 2s remain in 5th place as they go on the road again this week to 4th placed Beaconsfield 2s.

The 3s were at home to Aldershot 3s at Locks Ride. Batting first Shagnik Banerjee with 55 and 38 from Dirk Benneyworth saw Ascot reach a respectable 183 for 9 from 52 overs. However, Aldershot went from the off and with 53 from Uzair Ahmed and 55 not out from James Ferguson they managed to win with only 4 wickets down as Tom Dummigan took 3 for 48.

The bottom of the table 3s are at home to 8th placed Reading 3s this week.

The 4s visited Theale & Tilehurst 3s and were also invited to bat first. Despite 45 from John Dunnet, no other player got into double figures for Ascot as they slumped to 86 all out in 24 overs. George Coker causing the most damage with 4 for 10.

In the end Ascot were around 35 runs short as Theale & Tilehurst reached 89 for 6 in 21 overs with Rob Phillips taking 3 for 22.

The fourth placed 4s are on the road again to bottom placed Reading 4s.
